Hello!
Welcome to the Vega Marine Module Demo.
Vega is Paradigm Simulation's industry leading simulation software environment
for real-time visual simulation, virtual reality, and general visualization.
Vega can be used to quickly build interactive, real-time 3D environments
satisfying the most demanding requirement for field-proven applications.
Vega and its many plugin modules are based on SGI Performer.
Vega Marine, a Vega module for the development of maritime applications,
generates a real-time dynamic ocean modeled as a textured
surface with wave heights and periods corresponding to sea states.
The Trochoidal Wave Model allows the user to define multiple wave
trains which interact with each other to create a true 3D surface.
Vega Marine provides special effects essential to realistic maritime
simulation. All of the marine effects are controllable in LynX, Vega's
graphical user interface or via C API. These effects include wakes,
wind effects on water, constant tension and constant length lines,
moored buoys, depth (bathymetry) effects, foam, flotsam, surf,
horizon glow, and glare from the sun.
Sound is a vital part of any effective simulation or virtual reality
experience. Presenting sound spatially, with continuous real-time
waveform processing for multiple objects, earpoints, and physical
properties has been the exclusive domain of Paradigm's AudioWorks2.
Now supporting various types of rendering hardware, AudioWorks2 raises
performance, ease of use, realism, and customer value benchmarks even
higher.

Instructions:
To run the demo, simply type: "./vegamarinedemo" from the directory
in which that executable is located.
(Note: Running the demo as root will help performance.)
Two optional command line flags are provided:
-w brings up the demo in wireframe but with texture still enabled so that
the ocean waves can be seen.
-a runs the demo without audio.
The demo is not recommended for running on systems without fast
texturing capabilities. The demo runs well under Impact graphics,
iR graphics, Reality Engine 2, Octane, and O2 systems.
To run the demo on Indigo2 and Indy systems be sure the system has
at least 90 Mbytes of swap space and use the "-w" command line
option.
Things to try:
*Change observer view points using the '1','2','3','4', and '5' keys.
*Turn the time of day to dusk, and watch the beautiful sunset, and it's
reflection off the water. ('d' decreases time of day, 'D' increases)
*Turn on path rendering using the 'r' key. Watch as the boats follow
the spline based path, yet float on the dynamic ocean surface.
*Change to wireframe ('w'), and watch the real-time dynamic ocean mesh
stitch seamlessly into the static ocean in the distance.
*While viewing one of the ships, watch as the Navigation and Signal
Lighting Module shows the correct sectoring of lights. Also note
the buoy lights blink Morse code.
